Steak N Burger Dinner

Honoring our Youths of the Year

Meet the Youth of the Year representatives from each of its six Clubs, pictured from left, Justin McNair – Lake City Boys & Girls Club & Youth Technology Center; Nydia Orange – North Florence Boys & Girls Club; Jose Rodriguez – The Rick & Susan Goings Boys & Girls Club in Hemingway; Sydney Morrison – Pamplico Boys & Girls Club; Tiana Hickson – Timmonsville Boys & Girls Club; and Antonio Dix – Hartsville Boys & Girls Club.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area creates a unique learning opportunity at its Annual Steak N Burger Dinner, which pairs adults with Club members at First Presbyterian Church each March. While adults dine on finely prepared hamburgers and learn about the organization, the Club members are honored with special steak dinners, which, for some, may have represented their very first steak dinner.

During the evening, we celebrate the Youth of the Year nominees from each of the six Boys & Girls Club sites, Florence, Hartsville, Hemingway, Lake City, Pamplico, and Timmonsville.

The Carraway Turner Leadership Fund presents scholarships to one winner and runner-up, who are announced at the event.

The fund created in memory of Sgt. Terrence Carraway and Investigator Farrah Turner, who both lost their lives as a result of the tragic event on October 3, 2018, due to both officers' close ties to the Boys & Girls Clubs in their community. This fund provides scholarships to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area’s Youth of the Year for pursuing their education after high school.

Each year, the top scholarship awarded is $4,000 per year for 4 years. Since our youth range in ages from 6-18, we can have several YOY representatives and scholarship recipients using their awards at the same time.
